“Easter Bunny You’ve Got Competition…”

For the last 10 days, Janice Dokuzoglu and our very own Tracey Ozdemir took time out to maintain cultural traditions from back home. Children were invited to the old but beautiful Train Museum at Camlik on the road to Aydin, to a well organized Easter Egg Hunt and much more besides.

Children attending were each asked to decorate their own eggs which were then hidden and had to be found. Egg and Spoon was not forgotten in the past. When I arrived there I was broadly smiling as the “free range” (Groan J ) of little designs that the children had come up with. Chickens all over Turkey were left in sheer awe of how their eggs had tuned out as statements of both fashion and original concept were revealed.

With a blower that made sounds which can be only described as a, ‘moo cow,’ the children were called together for a photo shot for the newspaper and all held up their creations very proudly. The sun was shining, the location was well chosen and a picnic was enjoyed by both adults and their children. They were all presented with a real chocolate Easter egg as a reward for proving their hunting skills. I am predicting that the majority of female adults were rewarded with a better night’s sleep as the children must have been Eggsausted after the egg and spoon race…

A bit of trivia…
The Train Museum, which was originally opened in 1991, is worth a visit and also has a restaurant and cafe to be enjoyed for a family afternoon out. The museum was originally a train repair workshop and was used as the reliable old line for transport between Aydin and Izmir. The entrance fee is 5TL too, so it doesn’t break the family bank.
